ATMOS SOUNDS: Tim Fields

DJ and atmos Georgetown team member, Tim Fields, has been making waves in the music scene with his unique style and diverse sound. Growing up in the era of mixtapes, Tim developed a passion for music at an early age, which led him to explore different genres and expand his music taste beyond the states. A few weeks ago, we had Tim spin at the NBSE - and trust us, he provided the vibes.

In this interview, Tim talks about his love for music, the sound of the city, his earliest sneaker memory, and what goes into creating a good playlist. He also shares some of his current favorite artists and albums that you should definitely check out.

WHAT INSPIRED YOUR LOVE FOR MUSIC?

My love for music started at a pretty early age. My older cousins would always send me the newest albums and mixtapes during the blog era, and that really shaped my love for music. I always wanted to find the dopest mixtapes on Datpiff or GetRightMusic. It was like a competition with your friends to see who found the best new music every time we got together. The best part of DJing to me is introducing people to new music.

HOW HAS DC IMPACTED YOUR TAKE ON MUSIC?

DC has impacted my take on music tremendously. There are so many different pockets you can hit throughout the city, and that has helped me expand my music taste beyond the states. I now have a global outlook on music and want to bring my audience on a journey around the world when they come to see me play. I’ve had the privilege to create a few different events over the last year that touch on all types of genres. You can hear a whole different vibe at each one, which I think is super dope.

WHAT IS THE SOUND OF THE CITY?

The sound of DC is very diverse right now. I love seeing all my peers creating dope events that center around their sound, and you will have an amazing time at any of them. If you are into Global sounds, there's a vibe for that; if you want to hear House music, there's a vibe for that, and so on.

EARLIEST SNEAKER MEMORY?

My earliest sneaker memory was back when I was a freshman in high school, and the Jordan 5 ‘Raging Bull’ pack dropped. At the time, that was the dopest sneaker I had ever seen, and I had to have them. That was when I knew I had a love for sneakers. I bought my first pair of Jordans a few years later when I started working at Foot Locker, and my collection of sneakers has grown from there.

WHAT GOES INTO CREATING A GOOD PLAYLIST?

Creating a good playlist always starts with a question of “Why am I making this?” Whether you are making a playlist for working out, studying, an event, or getting together with friends, you have to know what you want to get out of it. From there, you can pick the songs that fit the scenario you are in.
